Subject: Milk: % fat by weight or % of calories from fat? -Reply

We are not confusing % of fat by weight and % of calories from fat. It is

important to be clear. The relivance of %of calories from fat is

questionable for any one food. It is the total composition of the diet that is

the issue. For instance some foods contain essentially all their calories,

or energy as fat, such as oils, butter, margarines while others contain

almost no fat such as fruit. A healthy diet is composed of a widely varied

selection of foods that each contributes to the whole. % of calories for

the entire diet is the issue. Low fat milk easily "works" into an overall low

fat diet.
