Barry Sears has not published a single study in a peer-reviewed

journal regarding his claim that eicosanoids rule the school and are

the key to good health, from "feeling good" to CVD to AIDS.

With respect to eicosanoids and the Zone Diet, it is not so much the

protein content of his diet that is expected to modulate eicosanoid

production. Rather, Sears contends that the low CHO content of the

diet will result in less insulin production. Insulin does play a

role in regulating certain pathways of eicosanoid biosynthesis. The

other aspect of his diet that he says will affect eicosanoid

production is the type of fat he insists upon, monounsaturated.
