Subject: Heart attacks and nutritional defieciency
There is some interesting research underway at the present time regarding
homocysteinemia as an independent risk factor for heart attacks. The
elevated homocystine is thought to be a rexult of deficiences in folate,
possibly B6 and B12. This is of particular concern in older folks who do
not consume diets that are adequate in these nutrients.
Drs Jennifer Anderson and David Sampson, both of the Dept of Food Science
and Human Nutrition at Colorado Sate University will be doing a
videoconference on Feb 14. If you do not live in Colorado or Wyoming, you
may be able to contact your state Heart Association Affiliate, or the
Colorado/Wyoming Affiliate about obtaining more information.
