Subject: Re: Heart attack: Coenzyme Q10 and Vit E

There is evidence that several different nutrients may be involved in

protecting against cardiovascular disease, and there are studies coming out

that show the effects of Vit E, C, folate, some of the other B vitamins,

magnesium etc. It probably all means that the basic diet of a lot of

vegetables, some fruit, some whole grain foods, some lean protein, and other

foods, that contain a lot of these nutrients is the best. (I do believe Dr.

Sears is probably correct in his idea that we eat too many carbs--certainly

if we look at the source of carbs for most people, it is in sugar, white

flour-substances that are relatively devoid of these other nutrients.) And,

in addition, other lifestyle changes, especially smoking cessation and

moderate daily exercise, all are part of the puzzle in the prevention of

heart disease.

It would be beneficial to supplement with good vitamins--but a mix, with at

least all the above. There is no single magic bullet that we know of yet

that is THE key to preventing heart attacks. (The reason to supplement is

that most of our foods probably are deficient in a lot of essential nutrients

secondary to modern farming methods--but if you eat a lousy diet,

supplementation can only do so much...)
