1954 - 1957: Elementary School Spraitbach / Vorderlintal
1958 - 1966: Parler-Gymnasium Schwäbisch Gmünd (1966 Abitur)

1967 – 1975: Medical School with graduation in Physiological Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of Tuebingen.

1976 – 1978: King’s College London, London, UK. Research on structure and function of mitochondrial proteins.

1978 – 1994: University of Tuebingen, Institute of Physiology. Studies on pathophysiology of cardiac hypertrophy. Focus on gene expression of cardiomyocytes and extracellular remodeling (fibrosis).

1994 – present: University of Marburg, Heart Center, Department of Internal Medicine and Cardiology, Experimental Cardiology Laboratory. Pathophysiological determinants of HUFA (highly unsaturated fatty acid) deficiency in heart failure. Drugs for reversing a dysregulated cardiomyocyte gene expression (SERCA2, fatty acid desaturases). Tools for minimal invasive access to the pericardial sac for intrapericardial (stem cell) therapy (AttachLifter).
